Explorer Scouts (14-18)

Explorer Scouts

The Explorer Scouts in 1st Bookham meet with the Bookham Ranger Guides, coming together for camps and activities in addition to the weekly meetings (Thursdays, typically 8.00pm – 10.00pm)

The Unit aims to further the Scouting or Guiding experiences of its members through a variety of adventurous activities, exposure to new cultural and real-life situations, and training and social events, by promoting both teamwork and independent development. In addition to the great friendship and fun that is enjoyed by members, many of the skills developed over the 4 years are becoming increasingly valuable for future educational and career opportunities.

The Explorer Scouts and Ranger Guides elect a committee of 8 of its members every year who, under the guidance of the many leaders and helpers, take responsibility for the organisation of the weekly programme, one-off activities and the four or so annual camps, which are held all around the UK and the summer camp and expedition is abroad every few years. The Unit meet every Thursday, continuing through the school holidays.

Many of the unit members join from local Scouts and Guides, but young people aged 14-18 from outside these movements are also more than welcome to join.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
