Greville Whitsun Camp 2011
27 May 2011

By Callum

On Friday evening the Patrol Leaders (PLs) and Assistant Patrol Leaders (APLs) were at the Secret Field, which is where Whitsun Camp takes place every year. They helped pitch the Medical Tent and the large tent that the food is stored in called the Eagle. On Saturday morning the competition camp officially started with the arrival of the rest of troop.

Saturday was spent pitching tents, making fire pits and building camp gadgets like a saw horse for making it easier to cut wood with a saw, a dresser for doing the washing up and a bench. We cooked dinner in the evening and played rounders which everyone thoroughly enjoyed.

On Sunday we all went to High Ashurst, which is an activity centre that does all sorts of exciting things like rock climbing and archery. We got to use the low ropes course and we spent the day focusing on team work and getting to know each other better, especially the younger scouts. In the afternoon we built catapults out of gadget wood and rope and fired wet sponges at each other, this was great fun. We then made a maze out of the tripods and pieces of string and played a game involving more wet sponges, blindfolds and a lot of wet scouts!

Monday was spent taking down the site. We always take care that everything is disposed of properly and as the field is used for farming, we all do a thorough litter sweep to ensure there isn't anything that should be on the ground. We then packed up all the kit and took it back to the scout centre and went home.

The best bit of the camp was definitely High Ashurst. Everybody loved the low ropes course and people really got to know each other well and made friends.
