Creative
The creative challenge has involved two main activities. In the autumn term we built and raced steam powered 'pop-pop' boats and more recently the boys have made puppets and performed plays in their patrols.
Community
As part of the Community zone we have been given talks by a one of Bookham’s councillors, the local Police and Community Support officers and Mole Valley Climate Change awareness. These have helped the boys learn more about how the local community functions and the implications of their actions both locally and on a global scale.
Outdoor
The main outdoor event over the winter was the November training camp held at Boider Hurst near Boxhill. Although we actually stayed in a hut on the site the majority of the time was spent outdoors – learning safety of axes and saws, accurately mapping the campsite and building fires on which lunch was cooked. In January we held a night hike, this is always a good test of map reading skill and this year was no exception with one group not arriving at the finish point until 2am and another having to be picked up by the minibus miles off course after becoming hopelessly lost.
Forthcoming Activities
We have a number of camps planned for this year in February, Easter holidays, Whitsun weekend, culminating in our big annual summer camp in July. Please feel free to read our recent reports to see what we got up to over the last year.
