Peter Duncan official opening the new Scout Hut
Chief Scout (until July 2009), Peter Duncan has returned to cut the ribbon and officially open our new Scout HQ. Having raised nearly £400,000 and 18 months after the first turf was dug the new Scout HQ is now ready to be fully utilized.
Around 200-300 past and present members of Bookham Scouting turned up to celebrate the completion of the new HQ. Prior to the opening Matt Davis was presented with the 'Medal for Merit' for the huge amount of work he put in on the build. Peter Duncan presented Matt with the award and congratulated him personally for the effort he put in as the architect, designer, project manager to name but a few of his roles.
As Peter Duncan cut the ribbon 100 balloons were released to celebrate the centenary of scouting in Bookham. The balloons were green, purple and yellow, representing the colours of both 1st and 3rd Bookham. A plaque was then revealed on the side of the entrance to remember the event by.
Once the HQ was official opened everyone present was invited to take a look around and view pictures and report from each of the sections. Peter Duncan also stayed around to chat to the gathered crowds about their experiences and involvements in scouting.
