About Oak Pack Cubs

Oak Pack Cubs meet during school terms from 5.45pm to 7.15pm on Tuesdays. During the cold weather we hold our meetings at the Scouting headquarters, but during the summer months we make use of the new Scouting Centre Land.

At our Cub meetings we run a range of exciting activities, usually based on a theme. The meetings usually start with a game such as guided missiles or ice hockey followed by going into smaller groups and moving around different bases run by the leaders. In the summer activities are usually outside and may include cycling, wide games and cooking over campfires.

Several times a year we arrange activities such as laser quest, bowling and fun orienteering. Larger activities are also arranged at District and County level; last year we visited the RAF museum at Hendon with the District and a County activity day called SCRAM. This latter event enables the Cubs to take part in such things as archery, rope bridges and bouncy castles.

Cubs can earn a wide range of badges such as swimming, athletics, scientist, map reading, chef and naturalist to name just a few. Badge work is sometimes included in the normal meeting programme; for example, last year the cubs earned the chef badge. During the visit to the RAF museum last year all the cubs earned their "air activities" badge. If a Cub achieves twelve activity badges he will be awarded the SuperCub trophy.

Once a year we hold a camp, usually in May. Last year's camp was at Boidierhurst, near Boxhill; this year's will be at Polyapes, near Stoke d'Arbernon. The cubs spend three nights under canvas with two very full days of fun, including wide games, camp cooking, an assault course, a campfire, and numerous themed activities.
