About 1st Bookham Scouts
1st Bookham Scout Group is located in Bookham, Surrey. Bookham lies 3 kilometres west of Leatherhead on the A246 towards Guildford. The Group is one of seven within Leatherhead Scout District, which comprises Leatherhead itself and the surrounding villages of Ashstead, Bookham, Effingham and Fetcham.
The Group has just celebrated its centenary and currently has over 200 members. It operates six individual Sections, has a 'partnership' agreement with an Explorer Unit and an association with a core group of Network Scouts. They all wear the Group scarf of green and purple halves.
The six Sections comprise two Beaver Colonies (Heron and Puffin), two Cub Packs (Ash and Oak) and two Scout Troops (Greville and Hutchison). Greville Troop takes its name from the family that occupied the nearby Polesden Lacey estate until 1941 and now managed by the National Trust and Hutchison Troop after Captain Robert Hutchison, a former Scout Leader within the Group and District Commissioner of the previous joint Epsom and Leatherhead District.
The Group had its Headquarters a stones throw from the centre of Bookham village, which it shared with 3rd Bookham Scout Group. We moved to our present HQ in 2008 and have an impressive facility. Details of this can be found via the following our new scouting centre link to the left.
The Group is managed by a Group Scout Leader (GSL) and is supported by a Group Executive Committee. Any enquiries should in the first instance be directed through Christine Whale (who is our GSL) who can be contacted by email on christine
