Tim Witherspoon's grandfather was Bookham Train Stationmaster, have a look at these pictures of his father and uncle Scouting in the 1920's.
These have been sent to us by Tim who now lives in Spain.

Centenary Badge
A new badge has been issued to celebrate Bookham Scout Group's Centenary. Here is a little about the thinking behind the wonderful design:
The beech leaf on the badge is because Bookham is from the Saxon name of Bocham meaning “Village by the Beeches” (now Bookham Common) which became Bocheham in the Domesday book and changed to Bookham in, –
well we don’t know when, sorry!
And the new HQ, well we all
know it that this is a doubly important year.
A liitle bit of history… apparantly Mary-Jane Arnett founded Bookham Scouts way back in 1909. She lived at Fairfield House, Bookham High Street, (it’s still there - about opposite the dry cleaners) and she held weekly Scout meetings at Fairfield House and camps at Worthing. She died in 1921 and her grave is in St Nic’s churchyard (by the church tower/ church room – has a celtic cross laying down on the grave).
We would love to know more – anybody any ideas? Please contact Clare Thomas via:
